About This Game Overview Dark Quest is a turn based fantasy role playing adventure game where players assume the role of a mighty barbarian on his epic quest to destroy the forces of the evil sorcerer and save the land from evil. An evil sorcerer has appeared in the lands, he has built a dungeon in the nearby village of darkwood, where his minions use it as a base to raid the surrounding villages to bring terror and death to all its citizens. This is.... well, it is an old-school game. Both in the way the combat works... and in how unforgiving it is. Seriously... I found one character to join my party, and the next room wiped both of them...If you are up for old-time RPGing, with a high chance of being whacked... this may be the game for you.Also the wizard who runs the dungeon is a real nasty guy. Why does moving count as an action sometimes?Sometimes I can move, then attack an enemy.Often after moving, it will say you "already performed an action" when you try and attack an enemy.Somtimes the game won't let your wizard attack enemies on the other side of your allies,sometimes it will.If you move any amount of your movment, that counts as your whole move action,even if you only move 1 square.. As a child, I played a ton of a little board game called Hero Quest. While many have attested that this game is very similar, I can tell you that a lot of the tiles used in this game as well as the monsters are EXACT copies. However, there are some differences. In this game, you play as 3 characters, all of whom have different strengths and weaknesses. They move along a set of tiles like a board game in a turn-based strategy RPG style. The story in this game is very light with no real purpose. Having said that, I absolutely recommend this game to any board game fanatics or Dungeons and Dragons fans out there that wish they could play solo. The levels are fast-paced, fun, and the abilities and attacks are very chance-based, similar to rolling dice.I absolutely loved my playthrough of this game and I hope a sequel comes out at some point!. It's not a deep game, and it has some flaws. But overall I found it fun.Like many, I see similarities to the board game 'Hero Quest' -- though it's a bit simpler than that even.Move around a 2D tile map with 1-3 characters -- basically fighter, rogue, wizard -- fighting various critters, collecting loot, looking out for traps.Especially if you are into game design, there's a lot to see here -- good and bad.Good: simple point and click gameplay, and some neat, easy to use mechanics. Nostalgia, if you played similar board games.Bad: A (near as I can tell) random "skull of fate" that, most often, costs you health or moves, very (very, very) rarely giving a benefit (point of health). There's not enough explanation of a lot of the gameplay, nor enough content to last more than a few hours. And one thing I'd change -- your movement\/attack for the turn on each character is a single click -- no moving cautiously one square at a time or moving the path\/distance you want before an attack.Overall, though, I'd say give it a go -- especially if you can get it on sale.. Also picked this up because I used to play hero quest a lot and got this at 50%.Features-lack of story-art looks not that good compared to the obvious source-lacks elf character, random treasures-has annoying random damage-has turn limit-has one-use potions and spells with varying benefit-has one-use weapons-lacks much contentWould pay 20$+ for a 1:1 hero quest game with steam workshop support, this is not it though.. A simple character sheet would go a really long way here.- As with above, seems items\/spells don't really grow in strength, you can just buy more. All of them are consumable (even armor, swords, etc.; all are one-shots)- Small bugs - (E.g. item icons may not match actual item selected)- Random "skull of fate" occasionally interrupts. Lose 20 gold, or one HP. Mildly annoying.A patch or two should clear some of these right up, and if this goes Workshop, this will be a _monster_. Otherwise, a worthy $5 gem.Pro tip: disable "confirm move"
